Extraordinary progress
Striking in design and innovative in purpose, the University Commons will provide an exceptional learning and social environment for our students.
As the cornerstone project of a major construction boom taking place at the University of New Brunswick Saint John, it will become a beacon at the entrance of our campus.
Destination of choice
The University Commons will house all the core elements needed to make it the destination of choice for students at UNB Saint John.
The university library system will be represented along with the Student Technology Centre, the Writing Centre, the Math and Stats Tutoring Centre, and the Commons Cafeé. Other features will include the Science Fiction and Fantasy Collection, artworks from around the globe and areas that can be transformed in minutes from seating spaces to guest lecture halls.
The Commons will be UNB's first green building. Its design will save a significant amount of energy and feature a number of sustainable functions such as grey water (recycled drain water), making it a silver-rated Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) building.
The centerpiece will be the new Learning Commons, a beautiful and functional space filled with light and life. Upon entrance you will find yourself at the heart of the facility, surrounded by workstations and inviting lounge and work areas intended to promote gatherings both large and small.
Changing landscape
The University Commons will benefit more than UNB Saint John students.
A regional Centre of excellence, UNB Saint John's health and wellness agenda is literally transforming the campus and attracting a number of like-minded partners. Standing next to the K.C. Irving Hall and opposite the new Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick and New Brunswick Community College Allied Health buildings, the Commons will be a central resource for our education partners.
As you arrive on campus, the new structure will be surrounded by lush greenery. Gone will be the parking lots replaced by inviting grounds providing a welcoming sight for prospective students and visitors to our region.
UNB Saint John is making significant contributions to the growth of our region and the University Commons is a symbol of our extraordinary progress.
